Jul 30, 2026

Students in Domtar Kingsport’s 2026 Rooted Internship Program joined Mill Manager Tony Clary in judging more than 600 entries at the Kingsport Fun Fest Trash Barrel Paint-In on July 14, volunteering their time to support one of the community’s signature events.

Held at the Allandale Mansion in Kingsport, the event marked the start of the 40th Fun Fest —  and the 11th consecutive year the mill has sponsored this event.

The Trash Barrel Paint-In drew hundreds of people to create colorful designs on barrels that were used at Fun Fest and other community events throughout the year. Many participants returned as part of an annual tradition. Barrels were judged by age category, and ribbons were awarded to the winners.

“Domtar is proud to donate the barrels each year, supporting one of the city’s most colorful and beloved traditions,” said Bonnie Depew, environmental manager for the Kingsport Mill. “We’re also proud of our interns for judging this year’s Trash Barrel Paint-In. Experiences like that are what our Rooted Internship Program is all about — helping interns build roots while contributing to the place we proudly call home.”
