FORT MILL, SC, July 29, 2026 — Following the Greater Kingsport Family YMCA’s announcement earlier of its plans for a new childcare center, Domtar is announcing its $200,000 contribution, made in 2025 as part of the YMCA’s fundraising campaign, to support the project and help expand access to high-quality early childhood education and care for families across the region.
The donation will support the YMCA’s planned childcare facility, part of a broader Kingsport campus expansion that includes renovations and new construction. The project will expand access to reliable childcare, help prepare children for kindergarten and support working families across Northeast Tennessee, where the YMCA serves more than 15,000 people annually, including 5,000 children.
“Strong communities depend on access to quality childcare and educational opportunities,” said Tony Clary, Kingsport Mill Manager for Domtar. “This investment reflects Domtar’s commitment to supporting organizations that help families thrive, prepare children for future success and create the foundation for a stronger workforce. We are proud to partner with the Greater Kingsport Family YMCA on this important project.”
The Kingsport Mill has long-supported organizations and initiatives that enhance quality of life across the region. Domtar’s community investment efforts focus on education, sustainability and humanitarian needs, helping strengthen the communities where employees live and work.
“Domtar’s generous support will help make this transformational project a reality,” said Steve Shives, President and CEO of the Greater Kingsport Family YMCA. “The new childcare center will create opportunities for children and families throughout our community, while helping address one of the most critical needs facing working parents today. We are grateful for Domtar’s partnership and commitment to the future of Kingsport.”
Groundbreaking for the childcare expansion is planned for fall 2026, with family registration expected in early 2027 and the center scheduled to open in fall 2027.
