Domtar, USW Volunteers Help Build Hope with Habitat for Humanity

May 11, 2026

Volunteers from Domtar’s Kingsport Mill and United Steelworkers (USW) Local 12943 joined forces with Habitat for Humanity on May 8 to help build a safe, welcoming home for a local family.

Employees dedicated the day to supporting the project’s key construction activities, including sheathing, bracing, and installing exterior windows and doors. The volunteer team included Joseph Bird, Josh Bolinsky, Landon Gentry, Barry Lyttle, Cory Moody and Scott Vickery.

The effort reflects Domtar’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the communities where employees live and work. Through hands-on service, the team helped advance construction
on a home that will provide stability and opportunity for a local family.

“Our employees are proud to support projects that make a lasting impact in our community,” said Tony Clary, the mill manager for the Kingsport Mill. “This Habitat for Humanity build is a great example of how teamwork, service and safety come together to make a difference.”

Throughout the day, volunteers demonstrated the mill’s safety culture on the job site by wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following established safety practices.

“We also recognize the leadership of our Welcoming Workplaces Committee for organizing and sponsoring our volunteer efforts,” Clary said. “In addition, we are equally appreciative of the contributions that will be made by our summer interns who will work on the home over the summer.”

This Habitat home construction highlights Domtar’s commitment to developing future talent through internship opportunities across the forest products industry. The mill’s internship program provides valuable hands-on experience in engineering, science, business and technology — helping prepare the next generation of industry leaders.
