A collaborative food drive organized by Domtar Kingsport and the United Steelworkers (USW) Local 12943 successfully collected more than 200 items for local families in need.

The initiative, spearheaded by the joint Welcoming Workplaces committee, highlighted the impact of strong community partnerships in addressing food insecurity.

The effort was made possible through key collaborations with Healthy Kingsport and the Kingsport City Schools’ Family Resource Center (FRC), which helps connect students and their families with essential services.

Ellie Mitchell, Domtar senior human resources generalist, emphasized the power of the united effort.

“By working side by side, we are showing that when workplaces, unions, schools and community organizations come together, we can make a real difference in the lives of local families,” Mitchell said.

The Family Resource Center serves children attending Kingsport City Schools and their families by providing direct assistance or referrals for a wide range of needs, including medical and dental care, food, clothing, hygiene items, housing assistance and transportation. The center also offers a lending library with resources on parenting topics.

Healthy Kingsport, a local organization focused on fostering a healthier environment for residents, contributed to the drive as part of its mission to promote well-being across healthy communities, schools and workplaces initiatives.

Organizers extended a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated and supported the drive. The generosity displayed reflects the strong community spirit of Kingsport.
